How can troubleshoot Network Printer Problems

Network printers can be provided a number of advantages to companies of all sizes, including with lower costs and greater flexibility. With a network printer into the place, individual workers has no longer need their own printers, and it can save considerable money on both initial purchases and ongoing maintenance. Network printers is also make it easier for employees to share resources and get most done, since large network printers typically print more faster than small desktop models. The problem is that when the network printer is down, no one can to print, so knowing how can find and resolve the source for the problem is essential.

1.      Send a print job to the same printer from any other workstation. If the job prints, we know the problem lies with the workstation and not to the printer.

2.      Print with a configuration page. The procedure for printing a configuration page varies, so consult the owner's manual that came with our printer. For menu-driven models, the most common method is to point to the "Information" menu and choose "Print Configuration Page" from the list.

3.      Review the configuration page and find to the networking section. The printer should have with valid IP address, expressed as a series of four numbers, each separated by a period. For instance, a valid IP address may be 10.78.65.220. If there is no IP address listed/ if the status shows "disconnected," we know something is wrong with the network card or the cable.

4.      Remove and reseat to the network cable running into the printer. Also remove and reseat the end of the cable which goes into the wall jack. These cables may work themselves loose and disrupt network communication. If the printer still does not work properly, replace to the cable with a brand new one.

5.      Replace to the network card in the printer if the unit still does not communicate with to the network. If we have more than one network printer, try swapping to the network card with one us know works. This will tell us definitively if the network card is bad. To remove for the network card, simply remove to the cable and loosen the thumbscrews on every side of the card. Slide to the card out of the printer and slide in the new card. Fasten it down with the thumbscrews, attach to the printer cable and run with a configuration page to test of the network status of the printer. If the printer is still disconnected, we shall need to replace for the network card.
